Trust and ethics at heart of address to the African Public Relations Association

(Comments)

IPRA sees public relations as the truthful building of relationships and interests with the ultimate goal of human advancement.” This was the core message delivered by IPRA board member Esther Cobbah at the conference of the African Public Relations Association (APRA) held in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire 13 – ۱۷ May 2024.

Under the theme One Africa, One Voice: bridging Africa’s communication divide the event explored the pivotal role of public relations in unifying the diverse African continent and amplifying Africa’s unified voice on the global stage.

In response to this theme Esher Cobbah pledged that “IPRA is committed to collaborating with APRA for intensifying truthful communication about the continent of Africa globally. Such truthfulness includes communicating Africa’s story and the opportunities it offers with accuracy for the benefit of Africa and the rest of the world.

Background to IPRA

IPRA, the International Public Relations Association, was established in 1955, and is the leading global network for PR professionals in their personal capacity. IPRA aims to advance trusted communication and the ethical practice of public relations. We do this through networking, our code of conduct and intellectual leadership of the profession. IPRA is the organiser of public relations’ annual global competition, the Golden World Awards for Excellence (GWA). IPRA’s services enable PR professionals to collaborate and be recognised. Members create content via our Thought Leadership essays, social media and our consultative status with the United Nations. GWA winners demonstrate PR excellence. IPRA welcomes all those who share our aims and who wish to be part of the IPRA worldwide fellowship. For more see www.ipra.org

Background to APRA

The African Public Relations Association (APRA) is the successor organisation to the Federation of African Public Relations Associations that was inaugurated in 1975 in Nairobi Kenya to foster unity via interaction and exchange of ideas amongst public relations practitioners in Africa as a whole. APRA’s primary purpose is to help in creating an enabling professional environment for accurate perception, goodwill and understanding of necessary and effective performance of public relations practice in Africa.
